Magnum passed away on 10/17/12 and was truly an exceptional dog; you will not find a dog with more drive and desire. He never tires of training or hunting. His marking ability was outstanding and he ran as hard and fast on blind retrieves as he did on marks. He was a very easy dog to train and can take pressure. He loved people and had an excellent temperament.
Magnum was an AKC Master Hunter, he completed his AKC Junior Hunter at 9 months, and his Senior at 18 months. He received his first qualifying score in Master’s at his first attempt at 29 months. I ran him in the 2000 Chesapeake National Field Trial Specialty where he took first place in the Derby. This was very special for us, as this was my first experience at Field Trials.
More important to me than his accomplishments in the Hunt test and Field Trials, is the fact that Magnum has proven to be an outstanding hunting dog in both waterfowl and upland game. Each Autumn we travel together on waterfowl/pheasant hunting trips to destinations such as North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Arkansas, and Tennessee. We also chase the Spring Snow Geese in Nebraska together. I emphasize this, because unlike many Field Trial/Hunt Test dogs, Magnum was a true hunting dog who spends many days in the fields and marshes and knows the game and loves every minute of it.
Magnum meets all of the standards for the Chesapeake Breed, and has earned points in the Show Ring. Frozen semen is available to approved bitches.
